In this next edition of our wine masterclasses, we turn our focus to the Ahr Valley—Germany’s most renowned red wine region.Guests are invited to discover the depth and elegance of German Pinot Noir during an exclusive masterclass with Alexander Stodden of Rotweingut Jean Stodden. Set in the refined surroundings of The White Room, this intimate experience offers a rare opportunity to explore one of the Ahr Valley’s most celebrated producers. Through a carefully curated tasting, we will delve into the character of Spätburgunder, a grape that, in the hands of Stodden, reveals remarkable finesse, structure, and a true sense of place.
Located in the village of Rech, Rotweingut Jean Stodden traces its winemaking history back to 1578, making it one of the oldest family-run estates in the Ahr Valley. Today, Alexander Stodden represents the seventh generation, carrying forward a legacy built on patience, precision and an unwavering focus on Spätburgunder.
Shaped by centuries of experience, Jean Stodden’s approach is defined by precision at every stage. Steep, south‑facing slate vineyards demand meticulous manual work, while low yields and selective harvesting preserve purity and expression. In the cellar, traditional open‑top fermentation and careful ageing in French oak allow each Spätburgunder to develop structure, finesse, and a clear sense of Ahr Valley origin.
During this masterclass, Alexander Stodden will guide guests through a curated tasting of Jean Stodden wines, offering insight into the region, the vineyards and the philosophy behind each bottling. Frederico, Head Sommelier of The White Room, will enrich the experience with context, translation and thoughtful dialogue, while four small refined dishes from The White Room’s kitchen are served to complement and elevate the expressions of Spätburgunder.
